Hey GLUs! This week, we’re wrapping up REVENGE OF THE WANNABES with a sad truth: (Wanna)bees have a queen bee for a reason. She maintains order in the hive. And Massie’s return to the throne proves it. Let’s get up to speed.
The Teen People photoshoot turned Animal Planet when the entire group got into a catfight. Alicia comes to the realization that her new clique isn’t as fulfilling as the Pretty Committee. Massie also recognizes that she may have been too controlling and that she does value Alicia’s friendship in a massive way.
“I guess… I thought I wanted to be the alpha. But it wasn’t the same without you guys.”
Massie nodded slowly. “It’s not about being the alpha. It’s about being a team. The Pretty Committee isn’t the same without you.”
They smiled at each other, and just like that, the tension melted.
Massie discovers that she has a crush on Derrington, making her crush on Cam soooo two weeks ago. And Derrington likes her back! Claire is relieved and excited to move forward with Cam, and has shared gummies and burned CDs to prove it.
At the Christmas tree lighting, Alicia is named the new DJ and host of the morning show at OCD. She gives a little speech about the tree being lit, but the tree should give a speech about Alicia being lit because she crushes it! Massie is beaming with pride and is beyond happy to have her BFFs back. Claire is in the Pretty Committee, and Alicia left those wannabes behind and is right back where she belongs. The hive will thrive once again!
Or will it?
Todd corners Massie at the tree lighting. As always, he was eavesdropping and heard his parents talking to the Blocks about moving to another house…
IN CHICAGO! (Gasp!)
Massie is spinning. She grew to love living with Claire on the Block Estate. It’s like having a sister! Claire is finally in. She has a dreamy boyfriend. AND NOW THEY’RE MOVING?? This can nawt be happening.
But it is.
Let’s discuss.
Is Massie being too trusting by letting Alicia back in so quickly? Are Alicia’s alpha dreams over for good, or will her ambition pull a Parker Posey and make a comeback?
The Pretty Committee puts the dyss in dysfunction. Why do you think Alicia wanted to return to a life of social insecurity? Why did she bail on her own clique and go back to the one that caused her so much pain?
Alicia and Massie made up quickly, considering they both had reasons never to speak again. What does their speedy reconciliation tell you about each girl? What emotions were at the core of the catfights?
Next week, we crack the spine of INVASION OF THE BOY SNATCHERS.
LFG (Let’s F-ing Gossip)!

1) At the end of the day, Massie doesn't like change. We see that whenever things get out of her control, she freaks out internally and will do everything in her power to set the universe right again. I think this is why she was quick to let Alicia back in - she wanted things back to how they should be. Alicia learned being an Alpha is harder than it looks, but I still think when she eventually sets out on her own in high school or after, she could become an Alpha of her own group again.
2) I second Ji's point about Alicia wanting the overall higher social standing (and she just gelled so much better with TPC girls than her own clique). Like Massie, having that sense of security and knowing exactly where you fit in just feels more comfortable.
3) I think both girls were battling their own insecurities. Alicia ended up conceding and letting go of her Alpha dreams, and when Leesh initially left, Massie was insecure in her own position as a strong Alpha. While we often see these girls portray themselves as uber confident, they do have these internal anxieties that drive a lot of their actions.
1/3: I think Massie trusts Alicia at the end of the day and that’s the factor behind the speedy getting-back-together. I know I’ve had friends that I’ve made up with just because I value their friendship over any missteps.
