POV: Alicia Rivera

Location: The sidewalk outside The Velvet Rope, 11:23PM

Five sets of toned and too-bronzed-for-Thanksgiving legs slid out of a black Porsche Macan. Despite the buzz from the pregame’s espresso martinis, Alicia Rivera shivered nervously under the glow of the Christmas light-lined street.

“A bar full of our exes, what could go wrong?” an arm looped itself with Alicia’s, and Skye Hamilton practically jetéd toward Westchester’s most popular bar, brimming with joy.

"So much more than you think," Alicia muttered as a flash of her fake id and the clatter of her new NYU dance clique’s high heels restored her confidence at the thought of facing the Pretty Committee tonight. At least she wasn’t showing up after the first semester of college looking like a total LBR.

After a semester’s worth of Friday night FaceTime calls that ended with promises to put the PC before their new college friends, Alicia had turned down Massie’s invite to get ready together tonight. Skye had invited their college friends to come in from the city to go out with them and after four years of night-before-Thanksgivings in high school with the PC, Alicia was ready for a change, but she was the only one.

Skye was already hugging every guy in sight, and the crowd parted to let Alicia and her friends to make their way to the bar, where a group of college upperclassman had a round of martinis waiting. Perks of having a friend group where each girl was a 10/10 and minoring in dance.

Alicia downed half of her martini, grabbed another, and set off for the high-top table in the corner where the PC was holding court.

“Sorry, only got a table for four because once again, Alicia Rivera thinks she’s too cool for the Pretty Committee,” Massie Block’s murderous eyes flashed a once-over across Alicia’s black ruffled Zimmerman mini dress and Aquazzura slingbacks, “and she’s not even trying to be an alpha,” Massie’s glare reached the back of Skye’s glossy blonde head, “what a waste.”

Dylan, Kristin, and Claire stared down into their drinks.

“I know you’re all mad at me, but I’m not here for me,” Alicia’s voice came out stronger than she felt, “I’m here for my friend Luis, the guy over at the bar in the cream Loro Piana sweater.”

The girls all turned to look.

“He sent this over for you,” Alicia slid the full martini in front of Massie, “He’s in my pre-law program at NYU and I’ve been telling him to about you all semester.”

Massie did a 180 and tapped Derrick Harrington on the shoulder, flashing a mega-watt smile, “Can you find me another barstool for Alicia?”

Her into-to-negotiations class was already paying off: by giving Massie a potential college crush, maybe Alicia could have her new friends and keep her old ones too.

There is so much I ah-dore here. Skye jeté-ing, the detail of the fake ID, and Massie's "murderous eyes". I can see it all so clearly! Ah-mazing!!!

POV: Massie Block

The center left table

The Gilded Ivy Bar & Lounge

10:15 PM

Massive let out an exasperated sigh. This is nawt how she envisioned her grand group reunion with the pretty committee. The Gilded Ivy was Westchester’s newest bar with a trendy menu to boot and was infested with CLBR (college losers beyond repair). Currently the exclusive center table was taken with girls she vaguely remembered from OCD who currently were discussing things like cafeteria food and grades. Booo-rringgg she thought bitterly twirling her purple streak in her hair. I even wasted a perfectly good outfit too she thought as she adjusted her white Alexander Wang sweater and her Burberry jacket. She glanced at her Rolex watch. The pretty committee was late, something she never would allow back in the day. An Alpha never changes her spots.

She had to learn to climb leaps and bounds while she was in London, no poor Miss Americana for this girl. At WHATS (Westminster Hall Academy for Talented Students) she fought tooth and nail to prove her elite status. She even found her long term boyfriend, Grant (who was basically British royalty bloodline like three times removed but who’s counting)? Now she was studying international business with hopes of landing her dream internship with Glossip Girl.

She thought tenderly of her simple times at her mansion and her friday night sleepovers. Things were easier then. Life revolved around crushes, sporting new outfits, and racking up gossip points. Now the girls had their own lives, struggles, and headaches. Alicia was an aspiring designer hoping to make her big break at this year’s NY fashion week, Dylan was a Tik Tok influencer trying multiple restaurants weekly giving them either a Fluke or Toot on her personal rating scale, Kristen was a D1 athlete at Princeton riding the waves of a soccer scholarship, and Claire…well she was another piece of the puzzle. Claire had opted to walk away from a major movie role working with director Rupert Mann which promised to be a “box office bang-a! The role of a lifetime” to walk the Pacific Coast Trail with Cam of all people. Massie silently crinkled her nose but stopped herself. Hiking on a trail with a heavy backpack and living out a Twilight fantasy with no Robert Pattinson…no thank you! She could only hope that Claire would want to make up for lost time with a trip to the spa to effectively cleanse herself of all the dirt and sweat. She looked towards the door and…finally. Her girls, her GLU, her pretty committee…but wait. Something was up. Alicia was fanning herself and hopping with excitement. Kristen and Dylan were squealing and dancing around. And Claire was blushing and examining her left hand. OH. MY.GAWD.

POV: Claire Lyons

Savvy Sips Dive Bar

The Center High-Top

9:18 PM

Savvy Sips dive bar was dimly lit, the air thick with the smell of fried food and faint laughter. Claire couldn’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia, even though it had only been a few months since she’d last seen her friends. The noise and buzz of the crowd felt like a distant hum compared to the tension she felt sitting in the booth with the Pretty Committee once more.

Massie was at the center, as always, a glass of wine in her hand. Her Princeton sweatshirt was the perfect contrast to the small-town vibe of Westchester, and Claire couldn't help but wonder if Massie ever truly felt at home here anymore. “Here’s to finally being home,” Massie declared, her voice cutting through the buzz of chatter, always sure of herself.

Alicia, who had made herself at home in the big city, leaned back in the booth and smirked. “To home,” she said, but there was a flicker of something in her eyes that made Claire wonder if she was as eager to be back as she let on. “And to finally escaping those stuck-up business majors at Columbia,” Alicia added, her voice dripping with mock disdain. She took a sip of her drink, her posture so effortlessly cool.

Kristen, who had always been quieter, was staring down at her glass, a small smile tugging at her lips. “I feel you, Leesh,” she said softly, her Stanford sweatshirt snug around her. “I’ve got enough of the preachy environmentalists back at Stanford. It’s like they think ‘recycling’ is the magic solution to the world’s problems.” She chuckled lightly, but Claire could see the edge in her eyes. Kristen had always had a knack for masking things, but Claire knew she wasn’t as content as she appeared.

Dylan, her bright California tan still glowing even under the bar's dim lighting, laughed loudly from the other side of the booth. “Yeah, but at least I’m not surrounded by snow for half the year,” she said, toasting her drink in the air. “USC’s amazing. I love the energy there, but I’ve missed a real Thanksgiving meal. And you know, being able to eat real food, not just avocado toast and quinoa.”

Claire smiled softly, but her heart felt heavy. They were all talking, laughing, falling back into the rhythm of things, but something felt off. The bond they once shared, the one that felt unbreakable in high school, had begun to fray at the edges. It wasn’t the same.

“So, how’s college life been for all of you?” Massie asked, looking around the table. “It’s weird not seeing all your faces every day.”

Alicia smirked. “It’s been a breeze. I’m already on my way to an internship next summer—finance, you know? Gotta keep making moves.” Her voice was as confident as ever, but Claire noticed a hint of something—was it loneliness? She couldn’t quite place it.

Kristen shifted in her seat. “Yeah, college is... weird. Everyone’s so different. I mean, I’m loving it, but it’s not exactly the dream I expected.”

Dylan chimed in, her usual laid-back tone betraying her nerves. “LA’s totally different from here. The people are chill, but it’s all about who you know and what you do—nothing like back home. It’s cool, but also... exhausting.”

Claire listened, but the words didn’t really register. All she could think about was how different they all were now. Massie, Alicia, Dylan, Kristen—they’d each found their place, their own rhythm in their new worlds. But Claire felt like she was still floating, trying to catch up, unsure of where she fit.

When Massie finally turned to her, the silence between them felt heavy. “What about you, Claire? How’s New York treating you?”

Claire’s heart skipped a beat. The city had been everything she imagined—and nothing like it at the same time. She tried to smile but felt the weight of her uncertainty pressing down. “It’s... it’s a lot,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’m still figuring things out.”

The others quieted, as if waiting for more. She didn’t know what to say—how to tell them she was lost in the world they seemed to be conquering so effortlessly.

Alicia leaned in a little, her tone softer than usual. “It’s weird, huh? We’re all changing.”

Claire nodded, feeling her throat tighten. “Yeah,” she murmured. “But I think that’s okay.”

The night stretched on, and despite the laughter and conversations around her, Claire couldn’t shake the feeling that things had shifted. They were still the Pretty Committee—but they were also something else. Something new. And maybe, for the first time, Claire didn’t mind that change.

Okay, better a week late than never?

POV: Massie

Location: The Block Estate

9:35 PM

Massie stood back and admired her work. Five twin mattresses adorned with bamboo sheets and down pillows were arranged in a circle in the Block Estate pool house. Thank Gawd William, her father, was able to get their old house back after Massie’s Columbia acceptance. According to the Pretty Committee, Westchester wasn’t the same without her.

She pulled out her new iPhone 15 Pro and texted Issac.

‘Thanks for the help! Sleeping bags are so high school.’

She added her signature purple heart emoji at the end, just as Claire stepped inside

The two girls squealed and hugged, and not long after the room was filled with the chatter of the Pretty Committee, reunited once more.

“I hereby christen this, the inaugural Night Before Thanksgiving Sleepover!” Massie announced, topping off the girls champagne glasses.

Her grand reveal was met with mostly silence and half-hearted grumbles, as each of the girls' noses were pointed down at their screens.

“Uh hello? Could everyone puh-lease get off their phones?” Massie crossed her arms and cocked her head.

Kristen sighed and threw her phone down, “Sorry Mass, I almost forgot about the Wordle. I totally would’ve ruined my streak.”

Massie rolled her eyes and stomped over to Claire, who was using her thumb to furiously swipe across the screen. “What’s your excuse Kuh-Laire?”

Claire tried to shove her phone under the sherpa throw blanket, but Massie snatched it away. The light of the screen illuminated her wicked grin.

“Claire, are you trying to start a fire?” She asked. Claire buried her head in her hands as Massie quickly retorted, “then why are you using Tinder??”

Claire’s groans were met with a chorus of screams and noises of disgust from the rest of the room.

“What about Cam?” Dylan choked out through the popcorn in her mouth.

“Webrokeupbeforeschoolstartedsowecouldseeotherpeople” Claire cried into her pillow.

“Uh, translation please?” Alicia asked.

Claire picked her head up, her face red and tear streaked. “We decided to see other people at school,” she sniffed. “To get it out of our systems. Then we can be together after.”

“Ehmagawd that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.” Massie wanted to shout. Claire and Cam were disgustingly perfect together.

“And you’re looking for that special someone on Tinder?” is what she said instead.

“What, like you haven’t used it?” Claire snapped back.

“Ew, no?” Massie quipped, then the remaining four girls said definitively, “Raya.”

Claire looked confused, but reached for her phone, requesting it back from Massie. “I’m only really swiping to see if Cam is on there. I have no interest in seeing anyone else right now.” She rolled over and threw the blankets over her head.

Massie would not let Claire ruin their perfect reunion with her sulking. She held up Claire’s phone out of her reach and said “Well if you insist on swiping, at least let me play.”

The others giggled as Massie crucified the local tinder population. Claire was finally laughing, when Cam’s one green and one blue eye looked back at her, posing with the rest of his soccer team.

“Who’s next??” Claire questioned.

Massie looked at her friend smiling and sipping champagne, and confidently swiped left.

The Clarie fanfic

The Spark Between Us: A Clarie Valentine's Day Story

As Valentine's Day afternoon unfolded softly like a warm embrace, Massie's fingers hovered over her phone keyboard before typing out a gentle message to Claire:

"Hey Claire, how are things going for you at your home? I've been thinking about you all morning."

Claire's response arrived swiftly, her words softened by a hint of surprise and a dash of delight:

"Hi Massie, things have been okay for me. Thanks for asking. Your message made my day instantly brighter – what prompted you to reach out?"

Massie's tone shifted from casual to contemplative as she admitted a truth she had long concealed behind a mask of confidence and sass:

"Honestly Claire – I've missed talking to you. My harshness towards you was just a cover... because I missed YOU, not just your presence in my crew or our witty banter – I missed the spark between us."

Claire's curiosity was piqued, and she probed gently, her words dripping with emotion:

"A cover for what, Massie? You've never been subtle with me before... What could you possibly need to hide from me? Was it feelings – feelings you had for me?"

As Massie gathered courage to reveal her true emotions, her words spilled out like a tender confession:

"Honestly Claire... my loneliness without YOU is what I really mean. You were more than just a friend or rival – you were the one person who truly got me."

Their Hearts Reconnect:

Claire's heart skipped beats as she processed Massie's words:

"That was middle school bravery... still true?" she whispered, hope sparkling in her eyes.

Massie's face glowed with emotion:

"Still true, Claire... I felt it then, hid it, and feel it even stronger now."

They agreed to meet at Claire's house – minutes later, they stood face-to-face at her doorstep.

Eyes locked, hearts racing – they fell into a tight, emotional hug.
