1. I think at first when Massie approaches Claire with the idea to pretend to be friends, she doesn't actually see them becoming friends. After the party is when things start to shift. Alicia's starting to drift away from Massie, which I think leads Massie into forming a friendship with Claire. Overall though, considering how Massie acted towards Claire at the beginning of novel, it didn't seem like she wanted to make peace or have a friendship with her. It was entirely about getting a boy/girl party.

2. I don't think Claire cares that much about getting a cell phone, especially considering she had a cell phone that Alicia gave her (which she ended up giving back.) I feel like she wants to be friends with Massie and have a Briarwood crush the most. For Claire being friends with Massie means fitting in with everybody, but she also wants a crush since the girls in Westchester are incredibly mean.

3. I feel like the dynamic of the PC was thrown off the entire second book by several things. First, Kristen and Dylan both having a crush leads to a big divide in the group. The Halloween party definitely made things worse because Alicia befriended Olivia which upset Massie. I feel like the rest of the drama relates to Derrington. Dylan and Kristen both like him, but he's also flirting with Alicia (also it seems like he's just using Massie's friends to get closer to her.) I feel like Claire didn't disrupt the dynamic too much because things were already so tense within the PC.

1. While I do think Massie wants peace with Claire deep down, I do not think this is her way of becoming friends. I think it’s going to take more maturing for Massie to relinquish her desire to win every battle at any cost. ⚔️

2. At first, I thought she wants friendship with Massie the MOST, but by the end of the book, I think she’d rather have a loyal boyfriend than a chaotic frenemy. 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨💘

3. It seems like Massie finally gets to a point where she has no choice but to let Claire into the group. No matter the reason, this will make the PC look weaker and like anyone can join (especially because it’s Kuh-laire!). I think the other girls will question their friendship with Massie and their status in the PC. Hopefully they will be able to remain strong and keep their exclusivity but I am not convinced it will remain! 🔐

1. In my opinion, Massie sees Claire, throughout this book at least, as a convenient nuisance. Annoyed by her presence, but at least useful in getting what she truly wants (in this case a boy-girl party to rival her naysayers.)

2. Even though Claire made a friend in Layne and. Frenemies in the Pretty Committee (mostly with Massie, cuz hatred can run deep if you did what Claire did in the first book) I think what Claire would want most is a crush. I relate to this heavily. Even as an adult, I’ve always sought a relationship or a romantic connection to make myself feel less lonely (it’s a selfish ask but what can I say?) and I think since Claire has actually attended school with boys it’s a normal for her to want that kind of companionship. (I’ll mention it now, but Massie sought a relationship just to one-up Alicia and Olivia and get more popular.)

3. Considering how easy it is to sway the girls in Massie’s favor, Claire was included pretty well after what happened with Alicia and Olivia. It took some convincing and prodding from both Massie and Claire themselves, but with everything that happened in the end of the book, the girls took Claire in happily, even allowing Claire in a group hug. And with Alicia wanting to become her own “Alpha”, the dynamic had already been tossed into that poor trash can by the Starbucks kiosk.

Yesss that's so true that Massie wasn't really that interested in boys until her friends started showing interest and she knew it would make her look cooler if she had a crush.

1) Massie is definitely (at first) just using the situation and Claire to get what she wants. At the same time, I do feel like she secretly enjoys the frenemy relationship they're developing. It's like a will they, won't they situation but for besties lol. At this point, Massie's more so accepted that Claire is going to be in her life somehow, so why not use it to her advantage in more ways than one?

2) I think Claire most wants the friendship with Massie and the status that comes along with it. She wants to have that feeling of confidence and belonging that comes with being a part of the PC. She's seen a glimpse of Massie being more friendly at the end of the first book, and she's clinging on to that hope they can be for real friends.

3) I think Claire joining did throw off the overall dynamic. The PC girls always have some uncertainty with where they stand with Massie, and now that's just heightened. If public enemy #1 can becoming a member, what does that mean for everyone else?

Great points! I completely agree that Massie will use the reality of Claire being in her life to get what she wants in other ways.

Is it me or Tod has very concerning behaviours and the adults are like laughing to and saying “whatever he’s a kid” and praising him for all the awkward things he does to Massie??
