Massie Block's Signature Cocktail

While outlining the adult Clique Novel - THE STATE OF THE REUNION, we had to ask ourselves some hard-hitting questions…

“Where do the girls live?”

“Do they have boyfriends? Husbands? Haunting Exes?”

“What are they doing for work? Do they work?”

and most importantly…

“What are their signature cocktails?”

In an earlier draft, Massie’s Blocktail was a dirty gin martini with blue cheese olives. That was until I discovered Empress 1908 Indigo Gin. I’m a gin martini drinker myself - sometimes I’ll go the dirty route, but typically the order is a Hendricks or Tanqueray martini straight up with a twist. But over the past six months, I’ve been obsessing over the Empress. And then BAM! It hit me. Massie’s signature cocktail HAS to be made with Empress. I mean, it’s purple, come AWN!

But of course, a basic martini is, well, too basic for Massie Block. She has to put her twist on everything (literally). Like Massie, the Empress is bright and intense. It gets the job done. It’s beautiful and feminine.

And it’s rich.

We proudly present…

the Purple Reign 💜👑🍸

Here’s what you need.

• Frozen Martini Glass (I like to put mine in the freezer 1 hour before cocktail hour)

• Cocktail Shaker

• Ice

• 3 oz Empress 1908 Indigo Gin

• 0.5 oz St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur

• Lemon Twist

It’s simple, but elevated. This is how you drink like Massie Block.

• Fill your shaker with ice.

• Add 3 oz Empress and 0.5 oz of St Germain to the shaker.

• Peel your twist off a lemon with a peeler or pairing knife. The less lemon pith you get with your peel, the more lemony and flavorful your twist will be.

• Pull your martini glass from the freezer, and coat the entire glass and rim with your twist.

• Vigorously shake your martini for 30 seconds. I like to sing through the alphabet in my head.

• Pour your delicious purple martini over your twist into your chilled glass.

• Enjoy! (responsibly)
