Hey GLUs! Welcome back to the Clique Book Club. We finally arrived in Lake Placid, where it’s freezing—but definitely not chill. Let’s c-c-c-catch up.
Massie faked motion sickness on the bus to avoid kissing Derrington, but the Ralph Lauren vibes on this luxe retreat? They’re real! Hope is in the pine-scented air until Massie opens her suitcase to find that her Bumble & Bumble leave-in conditioner has leaked all over her meticulously planned wardrobe. If only packing cubes had been trending in the early aughts. To top it all off, Mr. Myner tells the girls to pull two outfits—yes, only two—from their LVs because the rest is going back on the bus. Um, pack-shaming, much, Mr. Myner?
And then there’s the Briarwood boys…
Cam is icing Kuh-laire out, and Josh Hotz is giving Alicia the cold shoulder. Derrington, however, is on fire. The guy is up in Massie’s grill, non-stop, trying to get that kiss.
Desperate in ways she never thought possible, Massie asks Kuh-laire for help. She needs a kissing coach STAT before Derrington moves on and the students of Massie’s Underground Clinic for Kissing show up for their lesson. Because, as far as they know, Massie has been making out for months.
Claire uses a stuffed moose to coach Massie, but it didn’t exactly work out the way they had hoped. Derrington publicly confronts Massie about waiting FOREVER for a kiss. Her faithful MUCK followers come to her rescue by sharing all of Massie’s make-out knowledge, but that only makes Derrington think she’s been cheating. Crushed, Derrington takes off her “M” pin and throws it on the ground. Massie knows how that poor pin feels.
Let’s discuss.
The MUCK girls know Massie is more fake than a Frauda purse, and Derrington publicly dumps her. What hurts Massie more: the loss of these relationships or her tarnished reputation?
Alicia is literally chasing Josh Hotz when she could have any guy she wants. Why is she obsessing over the only one who isn’t interested? Why do we do that???
The Pretty Committee is devastated about their limited wardrobes. Why in gawd’s name is Massie so determined to impress a guy who wears shorts in the winter? Is TPC dressing for the Briarwood Boys or for each other? Who do you dress for?
LFG (Let’s F-ing Gossip)!

I dress for myself. Seeing a fashionable item I want to buy gives me something to look forward to and makes an experience better and makes me feel special. ❄️ When I feel better about myself, I can enjoy experiences more. It is kind of weird that Massie gave lessons on how to kiss when she hadn't kissed Derrington yet lol! 🫎 I think Alicia is motivated by insecurity because of how Josh is paying more attention to Claire than her and that it's important to not let guys get between friendships! ❤️🩹
It's totally a threat to Massie's reputation that stings more to her in this book than a cold shoulder from the hottest soccer player does. I will always be team M&D and unrequited love lol but it's interesting to see how she'd risk her first crush for the chance to stay in the top of everyone's social stratosphere. (Now compare this to the Landon dog leash kiss and the character growth is in-sane!)
