Hey GLUs!
Welcome back to The Clique Book Club. This week, we are wrapping up Invasion of the Boy Snatchers, and not a minute too soon. This one put the ‘pain’ in Spain.
It turns out Nina, the Boy Snatcher, has been stealing more than the Briarwood boys. Swiper also swiped lip gloss, clothing, and Massie’s hair crimper. The contents of her bag were starting to look like the Mall of America, but the girls finally busted her, and the mystery was solved.
How does the Pretty Committee punish a girl who has been lying, stealing, and backstabbing since the day she sauntered into Westchester?
Public humiliation, ah-bviously.
They expose Nina’s crimes AND an unflattering photo of her from Alicia’s scrapbook at the Valentine’s Day dance. Finally, justice has been served!
Sort of.
The girls got their things back, but what about the boys? Massie learns from Derrington that Nina “placed” him, Cam, and Josh under a “Spanish Soccer Spell.” She convinced the boys that she knew a Beckham-approved spell that would help them win their playoff games—one that required them to ghost Alicia, Massie, and Claire.
Spell-check, aisle three!
In the end, Nina returns to Spain, but the theft continues when Kuh-laire steals a kiss from Josh Hotz—her first kiss—and CAM WALKS IN ON IT!
Afraid of heights? I hope not because this is one hell of a cliffhanger.
Derrington is back, and Massie is over the moon. But what does this mean for the Pretty Committee? Our alpha doesn’t like it when the other girls focus on boys. Will she be the rule or the exception?
WTF Kuh-laire? You wanted your first kiss to be with Cam, but you gave it Josh! WHY?
How, will, and SHOULD Cam forgive her?
LFG (Let’s F-ing Gossip)!
Xoxo Lisi & Ellen
Omg the packing list was everything!
Kuh-laire kissing Josh always felt out of left field to me (ba dum tssss) but also… kinda made sense? With each book, her ‘good girl’ persona chipped away a little bit more. I think in part because she’s in the PC now but she’s also a 12 year old girl, in middle school, growing up and navigating life. She can be vindictive and manipulative. She’s not evil for this; these are human traits. She thought he was into her then he spends a week ignoring her & making it seem like she doesn’t care. By the end of this book, she was, rightfully, fed up with him!!! He was being AH-NNOYING! It’s also clear she wants to explore romance and the feelings that come with going through puberty. Josh was hot and there, ready to give her attention. She wanted attention. ‘Good girls’ traditionally cannot admit they want attention and to be desired because that’s ‘slutty’ behavior. But she kuh-learly did!! That’s why she did what she did! I actually don’t feel bad for Cam in this situation. He was an idiot. I do feel bad for Josh, since he was just a pawn in this game, and I feel bad for Alicia because Claire didn’t think about her once.
