Kuh-laire kissing Josh always felt out of left field to me (ba dum tssss) but also… kinda made sense? With each book, her ‘good girl’ persona chipped away a little bit more. I think in part because she’s in the PC now but she’s also a 12 year old girl, in middle school, growing up and navigating life. She can be vindictive and manipulative. She’s not evil for this; these are human traits. She thought he was into her then he spends a week ignoring her & making it seem like she doesn’t care. By the end of this book, she was, rightfully, fed up with him!!! He was being AH-NNOYING! It’s also clear she wants to explore romance and the feelings that come with going through puberty. Josh was hot and there, ready to give her attention. She wanted attention. ‘Good girls’ traditionally cannot admit they want attention and to be desired because that’s ‘slutty’ behavior. But she kuh-learly did!! That’s why she did what she did! I actually don’t feel bad for Cam in this situation. He was an idiot. I do feel bad for Josh, since he was just a pawn in this game, and I feel bad for Alicia because Claire didn’t think about her once.

I'd like to know the answer to #2. Even on a reread, the twist ending seemed to come out of the blue.

1) Massie always seems to set the rules based on how she’s feeling at any given moment. Maybe the girls can start flirting again, but if something doesn’t go her way, she would absolutely revoke their boy privileges in a second.

2) I remember being absolutely SHOCKED about Kuh-laire’s kiss when I first read! Definitely did not see that plot twist coming, and neither did Claire. In that moment, I think she was trying to come to terms with Cam being over her (when he was really under a “spell”). At her core, she was hurt. She had hyped up her first kiss so much to be in this moment, and I think there was just a tornado of emotions going on in her head that resulted in this betrayal.

3) Cam thought that Claire knew the reason he was avoiding her, so this whole situation hits him even harder. I think once they talk it out, Cam can find a place to forgive her for the misunderstanding. Regardless, it’s still hurtful that she seemed to move on so fast.
